Balch's paintings are chiefly European land and seascapes, and sketches of animals. With these are lithographs of Edgar Allan Poe and Thomas Jefferson, engravings of Algernon S. Sullivan, Jefferson Davis, and Thomas Jefferson, four woodcuts by Charles Smith of presidential homes, six lithographs, 1934, by Theodore White of Williamsburg, an engraving, 1789, of the Convention Army in Charlottesville, and a letter and an article by Balch on the ascent of a previously unclimbed Alpine mountain.
